Teaser Tuesdays: Wicked Intentions

This week’s selection is from Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt. The Maiden Lane series is one of many that I’m catching up on because book #3 is released next week.

So far I’m enjoying the book. I love the gritty atmosphere and the 18th-century setting. The hero, Lord Caire, is a little over the top with long silver hair (which reminds me of Lucius Malfoy who I don’t find sexy at all) and preferences for some kind of odd bedsport which has not been revealed yet.

He was a creature of the night, unfit for the company of humans.

The gloom of the St. Giles night enveloped Lazarus as he strode rapidly away from Maiden Lane and Mrs Dews’s innocent little home for children.

What about you? What’s your Teaser Tuesdays pick? Have you read Wicked Intentions or any other books by Elizabeth Hoyt?

This week I chose A Lady Awakened, a historical romance by debut author Cecelia Grant. I’m very excited to read this book!

The official release date is December 27, 2011, from Bantam Books/Random House, and the brief quote below is from the ARC that I received upon request from the publisher.

Last week I included a lot more than two sentences as per Teaser Tuesday rules. This week, I’ll keep it at two.

She raised her chin and met with her reflection as her breaths went quick and shallow. Sheridan’s reflection, too, the sweet springtime face paired with eyes that already knew too much of the world.

Teaser Tuesdays: Cold Magic

My pick for this week is Cold Magic by Kate Elliott. I’m catching up on this series so I can read Cold Fire, the next in the series which I got from Netgalley last week, and releases in the U.S. on Sept 26th. Cold Magic has been slow going so far. It’s a long, complex book, and I’m short on brainpower these days!

Here’s the excerpt from Chapter 5:

We who call ourselves Kena’ani made our fortunes and solidified our sea-trading networks because there were a few things we did particularly well with the aid of gods–back when our people believed in gods–and with the connivance of the natural world, which must be understood and manipulated so as to harness its power. Some say the Kena’ani are a godless, spiritless, magicless people who will sell our swords and souls for money and will trade anything, even our honor, as long as we make a profit by doing so. They can say what they want. We know how to keep our secrets. We know what information we are willing to share, what we’re willing to sell, and what we will never reveal.

Bee and I learned that lesson young: it’s easier to get away with things you’re not supposed to be doing if no one suspects you can even attempt them. Tell no one. Not ever.
